I fell today

Yesterday, I fell down. Truthfully, a hook got caught on the bottom loop of my shoe lacing pattern and dragged me to the ground. Today, I told someone that the path was way too slippery today on account of the rain, and then I proceeded to go down it. And of course, I slipped and fell. Luckily I was unharmed, and no one was there to witness my embarrassment as they were all wise enough to avoid that treacherous way. I knew the way was no good, and yet that is exactly where I chose to go.

There are times in your life when you will fail through fault of your own. Even though you tied your metaphorical laces, life still finds a way to trip you up. Other times you lead yourself to your own demise. You choose to ignore your inner wisdom and plot a course in a direction that is not good for you. And when you fail, as you will, it is because you made it so.

I myself have had to, and continue, navigate the various setbacks that have come my way. I have to ask myself, using today’s accident as a metaphor, what are the paths I’m choosing to walk down that will only trip up my progress? How are the choices that I’m making, actively and willingly, leading me away from the success I want in life? Where am I failing because I was just too stubborn to go a different way?
