I kept thinking about those NB44 ambassadors

Carlos Hank Guerreiro- up and coming equestrian show jumper for Mexico

Pasha Goodarzi- freshman San Jose State University basketball player

If you are not aware, this is the list of the ambassadors for the exclusive menswear line, NB44. I have to admit, it was bothering. One of these things is not like the other and that was really bothering me.  How in the world does a freshman basketball player become the best choice to promote exclusive luxury? And mind you, this choice had to have been made before the season if really kicked off.

Then I came across this quick snippet on the internet from Matt Weiner writing for The Spear SJSU, a San Jose State University publication:

… I’m curious to see if his signing could be a way for SJSU to enter the NIL space. Despite being a zero-star recruit, he inked an NIL deal with NB44, a high-end Italian menswear company, before the season began. This deal could be linked to his father Sasan Goodarzi, the CEO of Intuit, whose “net worth is at least $196 Million dollars as of 6 December 2023” according to Wallmine.com.

Whether or not his father actually had a hand in the deal, Pasha is one of the few freshman D1 players where this partnership would make sense. As an athlete, he embodies the ideals of excellence and honing a craft. Given his upbringing, he will have had experiences with luxury, but more importantly move in circles with other people who have as well. He is not a typical freshman athlete who is just scraping the money together to afford to go out for the weekend. He’s got it. And that he has chosen to align himself with NB44 speaks volumes.

It was never a random athlete. It was a calculated decision based on the circles he moves in and will move in.

(I also think there is something to the ethnic backgrounds of the ambassadors specific to the type of reach the company is trying to have, but I will leave that for now.)
