If it all went away

There is a trend among influencers where they discuss what they buy if their collection all of a sudden went away. They go over what clothing pieces they would buy first, the fragrances they would need, and the beauty products they would definitely seek out. They list all of the things that they currently love and essentially just give the viewer their favorites list.  But what if it weren’t a thought experiment? What if you really had to rebuild?

I recently watched Maya Shankar’s TED talk. She talks about the beauty of the changes that are forced upon you. After hearing from her, I am rethinking my tendency to try and make things back to the way they were. Maybe after losing everything, I don’t need to rush back to normalcy. Maybe I can think through what that change would open up in my life. What new direction could I go in as a result?

If all my closet suddenly emptied, I would be free of the items that don’t quite fit and could go about curating a wardrobe that brings me joy.

If I lost all my beauty products, I would be free to try those new brands I have been eager to learn about.

If I lost everything, I would be free of the clutter that had been holding me back in so many ways and could finally pursue a new aesthetic, a new life style, a new story.

As I’m writing, the thought that comes to mind is, “Why would I wait for everything to be taken from me before I finally try a new path?”
