Plant the tree

In an age of teen-aged TikTok millionaires, I can’t help but feel like I missed the boat on success, and I’m not even sure where the dock was. Looking at the business ventures and massive houses that people barely out of high school have secured, I wonder if I am too late. I’m not saying that I aspire to fame and fortune from viral videos, or that I even necessarily want a large house or my own business. It just feels like it is too late for me to figure out my path because I didn’t start sooner.

There is the proverb that goes like this

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”

It might be too late for me to become a child prodigy or a toddler in a tiara, but it is not too late for me to try something new. It would be great if I had spent my youth building up entrepreneurial skills or learning a new language or perhaps working on perfecting convincing accents. But I didn’t. I don’t have the ability to go back in time to correct that. All that I have is today. Today is the only day that I can start something new. Today is the only day that I can sow the seeds of personal growth. Let’s see what that becomes twenty years from now.

By the way, when I post this (September 22) is just shy of 100 days until the end of the year. Even with a small habit shift, a lot can change in 100 days. Just a little hint.
