Future has been tapped as the first creative director for Lanvin Lab. Yes, that Future.

Future is working with Lanvin on the Lanvin Lab. He is the first creative director on this project. Lanvin x Future is likely to debut for winter 2023 with both mens and womenswear. You can look up more about the recent history of Lanvin and their former creative director, and then why they might be making this move. I am instead going to quickly focus on what I think.

First thought: Really? Future? Why?

Second thought: I only really know Lanvin as a historical brand. How are they connected to hip hop at all?

And then I went exploring the brand’s site.

I was surprised by the designs. They tie well into street style. So going beyond Future’s personal aesthetic or how he chooses to dress, I can see this resonating for people who are influenced by him. And that’s as is, before he gets to designing. By tapping him, they already got me looking at and thinking about their brand more. I imagine that is going to keep happening and potentially open them up to more people.

The other thing that I will quickly note is how this is coming on the heels of Pharrell’s first show for Louis Vuitton. Future’s role with the house continues the massive collision between luxury fashion and music, specifically hiphop as a subculture. I am definitely looking forward to the winter release.

Excuse me while I look up Future’s fashion history. It’s going to be a long rabbithole.
