They call them vlogs, those videos where people show you how they are living their lives. They take you with them to the grocery store, the camera perched in the child’s seat in the shopping cart. They take you out with them to Starbucks, and you can see exactly how they order their drinks. They take you to the gym, with the sounds of weights hitting the ground and garbled bass from the gym speakers. They take you everywhere so that you almost feel like you’re there. “I went to x so you don’t have to.” And you don’t.
You don’t have to live your own life when you’re busy watching someone else’s.

It is all too easy to put off making a life change when I can lie to myself and say that I am just trying to do research and get inspiration. Really, I want confirmation that I don’t have to change. Maybe it really is too hard. Maybe these other people are “special” and so different from me that I can rest in comfort with my excuses.
I spend way too much time being busy watching someone else live life.
I am starting to get restless. I am not longer content resting in a false sense of ease. I have visual evidence that I could be living a different life. I could be out there striving and working towards dreams. I could be out there on adventures. I could be living a real, fulfilling life.
I probably won’t quit watching vlog content cold turkey, but I am going to try and find more balance. My goal is ensure that I am experiencing and living life in the here and now, offscreen and real life.
