Athens, Georgia: Home to the back-to-back national championship Georgia Bulldogs football team. Football is king in the town, and you’d be forgiven for thinking that is all Athens has to offer. If you dig deeper, you will find an area much more complex than that.
Botanical beauties: The State Botanical Garden
Athens is home to the Georgia State Botanical Garden. If you enjoy flowers and gardening, this is an easy must do. Admission and parking are free, but the array of garden variety on show is priceless. And if you do go and see it, you will understand why they constantly remain booked up with weddings and events. It is just a beautiful place to be.
Underrated Pizza: Transmet
That pizza was life changing. I will continue to dream about the best crust I have ever had. As someone who tries her best to cook pizza from scratch, I know that getting the dough right and all the toppings is a complex problem to solve. My hat’s off to the team there. You will see me again.
Artful expression: Georgia Museum of Art
If you have the time, please go and experience the art there. This is a free museum open Tuesday to Saturday. I personally was unable to go on my weekend there, but I did look into its offerings. They currently have an exhibit, Art is a Form of Freedom, put together in conjunction with a local women’s prison. If you have the chance to pop into the museum, take the opportunity to see the world differently by reflecting on the pieces there.
And yes of course, you can take a walk through the University of Georgia campus if you must go see Sanford Stadium and pay homage to football.
