I’ve got a quick review for you of the Clinique Moisture Surge™ 100H Auto-Replenishing Hydrator. Okay, okay, I must admit that I have tried this product before and wasn’t impressed. I’m giving it another try for this quick review.
The texture is a very light consistency, definitely erring closer to gel than cream. (The brand describes it as a gel-cream.) I applied this after washing my face in the evening. Maybe it was a self-fulfilling prophecy, but I could sense it would not be enough moisture for my skin. Sure enough, in the morning, my skin felt parched and was visibly dry. I applied some more. It felt better this time, but some time later I looked in the mirror and noticed a dry patch. At least it didn’t irritate my skin at all. There you have it. I found a positive.
I find it interesting that the brand recommends this product for all skin types. Do I? No, no I do not. If you are the type of person who needs something very light. Maybe you tend towards oily skin, don’t worry as much about dryness, and want something that feels cooling and refreshing. If that’s you, try it. If on the other hand, if you are excited by the name, “Moisture Surge,” because you are trying to find a holy grail for your perpetually dry skin, then keep searching.
I think I have said before that I was leery of products with hyaluronic acid (HA), thinking that the ingredient didn’t work for my skin. This is one of the products that led me to that decision. Having now tried other products that center the ingredient, I don’t think it’s the problem. Instead, there must be something else about these formulas that just don’t work. Maybe it’s the consistency? Maybe the lack of ingredients that help trap moisture in the skin?I will keep trying to figure that out.
