Simply changing where I sat today was a big deal

I just switched my seat at Starbucks. I moved from a table in the interior of the store to a long bench. This is a milestone. Thank you for cheering for me. Let me explain. I chose to sit at a table in the middle of the place because someone was already sitting at the far edge of the bench in my preferred spot. “What would she think if I chose to sit on the other side, 3 seats away, when the place is rather empty?” So I chose a spot next to a window, on a day like this, even though I hate being next to windows during storms, and not close to an outlet, even though I have using a laptop. All of this discomfort for myself instead of the possibility of a stranger disapproving of my actions. Because I often write about my attempt to overcome this type of thinking, I moved.

I am so much more pleased with this spot for myself. This is your reminder to set yourself free to take that step, the one you wouldn’t do because “Gasp, what would they think.” Even if it as small as moving tables.
