Even with a billion dollars

Today’s bloganuary prompt: If you had a billion US dollars, how would you spend it?

To be honest, when I first read that, I immediately thought, “If I were given a billion dollars, I would probably waste it.” I don’t mean that I would go on a crazy spending spree and end up bankrupt somehow. I mean, I would probably buy some of the things I have written about here on my wish list. But other than that, it would probably just waste away in a bank somewhere, never knowing its potential. To me, money never spent is truly wasted.

I think what would work better for me is to have a wealth management advisor for a year before I were given a lump sum. I would need how to prepare mentally for such windfall and restructure my approach to money. I think it is all too easy to think of all the things you could buy, but that much money needs a real strategy.

To be honest, I would probably do well to start working with a financial advisor even now, with nowhere near that sum of money. This is making me think more about how I view money now. How can I start to see it as a resource to be used?
