I have been thinking more about how to travel better, which led me to look more into American Express. Previously, I thought that the American Express Platinum card was the crème de la crème, a serious upgrade from the other cards in the arsenal. But the more that I look into it, that’s not the case. American Express just provides different cards that meet different needs. The Gold card is more your everyday card. With point multipliers leaning heavily on groceries and dining, it rewards you for making the purchases you need in basic life. However, these benefits (4x points on groceries and dining) are not offered on the Platinum card. Instead, that one leans much more heavily on travel rewards and perks

After digging in, even if you are super into travel, it actually makes sense to have both in your wallet to maximize all of your purchases. Book your flights and hotels with your platinum card, and you get much more points, access to travel lounges and hotel amenities. Make sure you then use your gold card on food. And then use either as you desire to rack up points in other categories.
