As much as I enjoy shopping, I am going to give you the advice that I need myself. Be mindful of what appears to be a deal. Right now, and in the week prior, many retailers are running promos. You likely have seen sitewide discounts, gift card events, gifts with purchase abound. Do yourself and your wallet a favor. Pause and evaluate whether you truly will be getting a deal.
As enticing as it seems, it’s not a deal if you didn’t really want it and would never have purchased it. If you wouldn’t pay full price for it, don’t bother getting it just because it went on sale. Let’s do a little case study.
You see a $200 dollar sweater, you are not a fan of it and keep scrolling down the page. The next week you see it is %50 off. You can get that mediocre sweater for just $100. You will save so much. Sweet! A deal. But, that is $100 you would not have actually spent before. If you are spending more money, that is not actually helping you.
If you wouldn’t pay full price for it, don’t bother getting it just because it went on sale.
Second scenario. You see a $200 sweater. You are in love with it, as much as you can be with an article of clothing. You have been waiting patiently, risking it going out of stock, just to take advantage of some deals. You can’t take it anymore and head back to the site and see it is now %50 off. You are saving money. You would have paid the full price, but are now saving $100.
Basically, before you get sucked in to the marketing, make sure that you are using these sales to your financial advantage. Only buy what you truly want and need, outside of the strange world of intense sales periods.
I say this all with the wisdom of someone who got got by the FOMO of all the discounts. If you will excuse me, I need to make some returns.
