Review of the U Beauty Super Hydrator and Bioactive Barrier Treament: Does my dry skin approve?

I had never heard of the brand U Beauty before, which made me all the more interested in trying it out. I had deluxe samples of the Super Hydrator and the Bioactive Barrier Treatment. I got them as a duo, and I’ll review them together here in this post.

I started off using the Super Hydrator, then the third day I added in the treatment. I alternated days using it. I would take a day or two of, then go back to using it. I ended up getting three weeks of use with the products.

The Super Hydrator

$68 for 15 mL

Cream with patented Hydra Siren capsule to deliver moisture to dehydrated skin for up to 48 hours

Day 1. I was pretty sure my skin was hydrated. I washed my face with Tata Harper Nourishing oil Cleanser. Then applied 2 pumps of the moisturizer. The next morning, or Day 2, my face didn’t feel tight at all.

Day 2- Uh Oh, there’s a dry patch, there’s a dry patch. Is that a flake? This was me analyzing my skin in the mirror. I washed my face with the Tatcha Rice cleanser, and then applied the moisturizer.

Over the next few days, I applied oil over top in hopes of reducing the flaking. I started adding in the barrier treatment on alternate days. (The instructions I had said you should use it 3 to 5 times per week.) Then one day I applied the moisturizer and serum with no oil. My skin felt great in the morning, though I had minor flaking on my forehead.

The Barrier Bioactive Treatment

$168 for 50 mL

Treatment with Immortal Siren to improve the strength and appearance of your skin

And then, even though I never do this, I decided to apply it in the morning as well. Typically I reserve my expensive moisturizers for overnight use. But because I was having issues with my skin throughout the day, I decided to stop being cheap and follow the directions.

I continued on with this process until the moisturizer ran out. I still have some of the treatment though. My skin felt fine, but it seemed like it got very dry underneath my protective mask. To the point I started thinking I should get a facial mist to spray throughout the day. I didn’t, but I thought of it.

My final thoughts? I am on the fence as to whether I would buy The Super Hydrator again. I didn’t have any irritation, but it felt like I had to use the barrier serum to make things work for me. My face was not moisturized to my liking. Things I noticed that make me say that is that my smile lines would become deep set, or rather I would get some. For me, that really is a sign that my skin is dehydrated. I didn’t feel my skin was optimally hydrated unless I had applied the barrier serum the night before. But even then, it seemed it took a while for my skin to adjust. But maybe I just wasn’t applying enough? I don’t know.

As for as the Bioactive Barrier Treatment, I still have a bit left and will see how it behaves with the other moisturizers I’m trying out. If there is anything either side of the poles of good and bad, I will update you. Again, the instructions that came with my product made it seem like you shouldn’t use it every day. In their How to Use video it says to use 2-3 nights per week.  But now on the website, it has results based on daily use over 30 days. Could I have just used it everyday and have gotten better results? Why is it limited to 2-3 times?

When I checked the site, I didn’t see anywhere where you could find a routine, a place that made it clear which products would be best for which skin types. But then again, it looks like this is their only moisturizer. I’d be curious what they would suggest given I have very dry skin. In general, I would have liked more information. But then again, I’m a needy consumer.

At the end of the day, I don’t have any red flags, but I suggest trying the products for yourself. If you are interested, you can check out the U Beauty site and fine retailers.
