Fully recognizing that I have been writing up my own opinions on various fragrances, I need to make this disclosure. You really have to try fragrances out for yourself. My opinion, and anyone else’s for that matter, is just one data point. You need to have your own experience and come to your own conclusions.

For example, I remember back when Sephora made fragrance samples in store. I had fallen in love with the scent of Tom Ford’s Neroli Portofino on a tester strip. I decided that was one that I needed to have. So, I went home with a sample. Because it was so lovely, I couldn’t wait to spray it on myself. I sprayed it on my chest and went on to work. And then I felt like I was dying. The floral notes were projecting so strongly, it was as if they were reaching up trying to choke me out. My cause of death would have been strangulation by a fragrance.
For some reason, this happened again when I tried Clean Reserve’s Acqua Neroli. Again that white floral came to attack me again. For whatever reason, that note projects so strongly from my skin that it becomes uncomfortable, even though I find it so nice and pleasant on paper. But maybe for you that isn’t true. Maybe it settles nicely and you are able to enjoy the full composition and get the chance to experience the notes.
Not only will different fragrances behave differently on you than any reviewer, but you simply have different preferences. You are going to like different things than I will, you will be repulsed by different things than I will, and you will find yourself avoiding a completely different range of scents that smell like your very different grandmother. (Unless of course we are cousins. In that case, hi, sorry I didn’t make it to the reunion.)
In any case, allow yourself to play in fragrances and discover them for yourself as well.
