Do you need to do ice baths for your face?

Working through Oprah’s skincare favorites, I saw an odd sight: The Face Tub. Okay, it’s not that odd given the virality of morning dunks into bowls of ice water. Even Duo the Duolingo owl adopted the practice. However, it’s basically just a water bucket. Right?

Instead of just trying to hold your breath underwater, The Face Tub includes breathing tubes. These allow you keep submerged for longer, as if you were doing a less enjoyable scuba dive with none of the undersea sights.

But why on earth would this be a good idea?

Many people claim that ice water helps them reduce pore size and reduce puffiness. Others use ice water to train their mind to endure challenges and practice mindfulness. But is it right for you?

If you just want to try a viral social media trend, then yeah, go ahead. However, there are better ways to get the results you want with what you might already have on hand. You could always go the cold shower route or just take your largest bowl and fill it with ice water. But maybe you don’t need to get submerged to get the results you want.

If you just want depuffing, you can simply take an ice cube wrapped in a towel. Then proceed to rub it around your face. If you want to go for aesthetics, there are multiple wands you could buy and keep stored in the fridge for this purpose. Or take a wash cloth, deep into cold water, wring it out, and then hold it to your face. But ultimately, you should try to figure out what is causing your puffiness and get to fixing it at the source of the problem.
