Loewe perfumes first impressions

Loewe had a pop-up in New York City. It was their first ever perfumes pop-up in the U.S., so I had to be there. I made my way the final week, through a massive snowstorm to the location in Rockefeller Center. Despite the bitter cold and dirty snow outside, inside was an oasis. Corrugated, deep green paper was used to design the shapes of the wall, fitting in with the natural theme of the fragrance line and the overall marketing used by the brand.

I was greeted by knowledgeable and friendly host who walked me through some of the top sellers. Here is what stood out to me and  my first impressions of the brand.

Tomato leaves: The fan favorite

To me tomato leaf seems like such an odd fragrance to want to promote. It is not something I would ever think off, but then again, Loewe is known for being more outside the box. As you might imagine, the scent is very green and vegetal. As someone who ends up leaning towards sweet candles, I can only imagine what it is like when it is burned as a candle or used for washing up. But if people love it, maybe it is something I would have to experience to understand.

Oregano: Exactly what you’d think

I was smelling candles blindly and immediately traced this back to the herb. It smells exactly like the oregano you’d find in your kitchen cabinet. I supposed if you burn this and tomato leaf, you might could fool people into thinking you know how to cook.

Earth eau de parfum: My favorite

Based on the name, I thought this would smell dirty. Instead, it smells soft, feminine, and pretty. I was tempted to buy this, but I remained strong. I sincerely look forward to getting a sample of this one day to test out on my skin.

Walking through the prices right now, it seems the personal fragrances are on par with designer brands. The candles, however, are much more expensive than I was expecting. Beyond what they might say about ingredient quality, I think that largely has to do with the terracotta vessels that they make by hand for each of the candles. That’s gotta add up. Alternatively, if you don’t want a bunch of clay pots stacking up as you finish off your candles, they do offer candle sticks. They have significantly shorter burn times, but something about the dripped partially melted pillars seems so chic to me. But am I fancy enough for that?

This was my first time smelling these fragrances, but it certainly won’t be my last. While the pop-up has closed, fragrances are all available on the Loewe Perfumes site, in their stores, and through various retailers. I definitely see a sample box purchase in my future.
