Windows Down is not the scent I was expecting

When I saw the name of the fragrance was Windows Down, I had a clear picture to describe what experience this offering from Henry Rose would remind me off. I thought of driving on a cool day, with the breeze wafting in to my car as I cruise. It’s carefree. It’s fresh. It’s not this.

Now, it’s not a bad scent. It’s not what I would have imagined. They’ve used citrus as a means of interpreting that open air freshness. I just find that it doesn’t lift off my skin to convey that feeling. But perhaps, this is the kind of fragrance you would wear while driving windows down.

I could see someone who is a fan of Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue being drawn to this. While they don’t smell exactly the same, both are citrus forward. Windows Down seems like it would fit into the portfolio of summer ready fragrances. It wouldn’t be cloying and or overwhelming as the air and heat rushed into the cabin as you drive on your road trip. And it stayed on my skin all day long. That should hold you over well until your next rest stop.

Windows Down eau de parfum

$120 for 50 mL

Notes:

Top: Neroli, grapefruit, bergamot, Earl Grey tea accord

Heart: Orange flower, jasmine

Base: Moss, guaiac wood, musk

As for me, I don’t know how I would wear the scent. I don’t find myself gravitating towards citrus. I think that I should try pairing this with another scent profile. Maybe something woody could use the brightness. Or vanilla, but that feels like an easy cop-out. On the bright

(Interesting, the brand recommends pairing it two of their scents. Torn is a “spicy vanilla,” with florals, sandalwood and musk. Jake’s House is a “marine citrus” (although I don’t see any citrus notes, nor do I know what they mean by marine notes). If you are looking for bright citrus scents and value ingredients transparency, get a smell of Windows Down
