Mr. Valentino Garavani was pronounced dead. Though he had already retired from his eponymous label, the loss still sent ripples through the fashion world. He was the last Italian gentleman, as they said. I never met the man. I never wore a single piece of Valentino clothing or accessories that he designed. And yet, even I can’t help but consider his legacy.
While so many look back, I want to look forward.
Mr. Valentino had long been retired from the house. What’s next for Valentino has already been decided But without his presence looming, what is the legacy of Mr. Valentino? What will it mean to preserve it? And what will come of the fashion space when all the founders are gone?
