When La Mer came out with a night cream, my inner skincare geek got excited. It’s now over a year since the release and I’m only just now giving it a go. I had the chance to get in store to get a sample that lasted me about three days. Here is my first impression of the product as someone with a drier skin type.
As a quick catch-up, the product is billed as a retinol alternative moisturizer set to rejuvenate your skin overnight. They claim it will plump your skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles over time.

La Mer Rejuvenating Night Cream
$450 for 2 oz
When I used the product, the first think I noticed was the texture. It is nowhere the same as the original cream. It is much closer to the soft cream, but maybe more whipped. Putting it on my skin, I instantly felt like I was lacking something. When I awakened in the morning, I didn’t have any dry patches, but my skin lacked oomph.
I of course can’t speak to the long-term results with just a short-term usage, but I can say that my skin didn’t seem better for it. And that is purely because it didn’t meet my hydration needs. Frankly, I was surprised that this moisturizer wasn’t more moisturizing. I wonder how it is behaving on other skin types if they are claiming it plumps fine lines.
Even though they claim this is for all skin types, I would say this is probably better for those with normal to oily skin types. If I were serious about testing this product over 8 weeks to try and see results, I would have to use it as part of a larger hydrating routine. But if I were you, I would stick to the original Crème de La Mer. It pretty much has the same claims, but at a lower price.
