After staying at the Langham Hotel in Boston, I got curious about the other properties they had around the world. This summer I made my way to the New York location.

I went up to the room, using the key card enabled elevator. The bathroom was stocked with Diptyque products.

There was a welcome treat of truffles and water.

There was more Palais Des Thés in the room, along with a kettle and Nespresso machine.

The minibar was stocked. And that was it. As I scroll through my phone, I’m realizing I didn’t take that many pictures. I suppose I wasn’t all that excited. It was nice, but not special. It felt like generic New York hotel rather than a luxury experience.

The biggest con was that the “upgrade” I received meant that my room was along the busy New York street, in a city that never sleeps. Without getting earplugs from the front desk, I wouldn’t have either.
I will say this, the staff was excellent. They were just as you would wish for a luxury hotel experience. But the décor? It was missing special touches to give it character. When I stayed at the Knickerbocker Hotel in February of 2023, my travel companion described the décor as “devoid of life.” I get it now. I feel the same way about this hotel. And that’s a shame.
Décor isn’t everything. There are other factors to consider whether a hotel is right for you. Check back for my other posts where I’ll let you know more about my experiences on the property.
