If I were one of those old-timey explorers out on quests, one of mine would certainly be for a basic moisturizer. Something that hydrates my skin enough without active ingredients that compete with the various serums and tonic that I’m frequently testing out. Something, while I want it to basically do nothing for me still leaves my skin nicely hydrated but not greasy. Perhaps I have found one: Enter Defying Gravity from Thrive Causmetics Bigger Than Beauty.
This lightweight gel cream surprised me with how left my skin moisturized and not parched. Perhaps, it was rude of me to have such low expectation of the product. I apologize. However, with each use as the summer season wore on, I liked it more and more. It was just what I needed.
Perhaps it is also rude of me to call this a basic moisturizer because the brand has imbued it with ceramides and peptides to help fill lines and plump the skin. I guess that’s where the name came from. But, for starters, that is not my priority at this point in my skincare journey. I’m just glad it’s not an acid or extract that would compete with the products I try to test regularly. And it did that.
I’m adding this to my list of treasured basic moisturizers, for those times when I need something simple that will get the job of hydration done. I imagine as it turns to winter that the deep hydration version would be a better fit. If you have dry skin or live in a dry climate, check that version out.
Also, this moisturizer is $49 for 50 mL, but you get more than skincare with your purchase. Each time you buy from Thrive, they make donations to nonprofits across the U.S. Take a moment to learn more about their story and mission.
