A Wren Says

I went in to the Byredo store on a mission: I was going to buy something. After falling in love with Blanche, perhaps that would be the one. But as I sniffed my way through the Night Veil collection, my goal shifted. This is the one I should get: Casablanca Lily.

To say that it is a sweet floral would be disrespectful to you. Of course you already know that. It’s meant to smell like a lily. Duh. But it had a “je ne sais quoi” that I couldn’t get over as it played with the smell of my skin. It was boldly feminine without being overpowering. And as I had to admit, that is the essence that I wish that I could embody.

I wore the fragrance on the daily to get to know it better. To work, to the store, sitting at home. I perhaps got a compliment one time when wearing it. “Someone smells good, like clean laundry.” Maybe, it was for me, but maybe it was for the other person in the vicinity. I’ll take it.

Let’s get this clear, this is undoubtedly a very expensive fragrance. Part of the expense the fragrance is likely due to the concentration of the oils. As I wore it more regularly, I noticed the sheen it left on my skin. I was glad I never had the urge to spray it on clothes. I might have got more projection and longevity if I had done so, but I would also ruined a few shirts while doing that.

Again, back to how expensive this fragrance. To his credit, the sales associate tried to talk me out of springing for a full bottle after just smelling it once in store, but my mind was made up. It was coming home with me. For you, however, I highly recommend that you get in store, spray it on skin, and then go about your day. Or alternatively, get a discovery set that includes this and get to know it that way. Please don’t shell out that kind of money only to find you don’t like it.
