This week, I’ve been going back to some old favorite scents. Here’s what I’ve been wearing.
From Kilian Paris

$275 for 50 mL
Notes: Bergamot, apple brandy accord (rum, moss, vanilla), cedarwood, ambroxan, cardamom
I have a travel size of this sitting on my desk. I sprayed it on for a quick fragrance boost and remembered why I liked it. You can probably expect this smell boozy. It certainly checks that box, but it also brings in a slightly fruity sweetness with the apple. Given how boozy this fragrance is, maybe it’s not work appropriate. And yet, here I am, wearing it as if it is a daytime scent. It is probably best suited for evenings out and long conversations with an alluring stranger. Or perhaps, it will help as you spend time with those you already know and love.
What I want to try next: Old Fashioned
From Gucci

Gucci Flora Gorgeous Gardenia eau de parfum
$181 for 100 mL
Notes:
Top: Pear blossom accord, Italian mandarin, and red berries
Heart: White gardenia, jasmine absolute, and frangipani flower
Base: Patchouli and brown sugar accord
I wanted to smell pretty. This subtly floral, lightly sweet scent fit exactly what I had in mind for the day. I wonder why I don’t wear it more often. Have you seen that Gucci fragrance ad with Miley Cyrus in a field with flowers, decked out in seventies inspired clothing? Yeah. It smells like that. Think carefree living, airy shirts, fun, and undeniably femininity. I think that is definitely what I want to smell like.
What I want to try next from Gucci: The Alchemist’s Garden, A Reason to Love
From Byredo

$235 for 50 mL
Notes
Top: Aldehyde, Rose Centifolia
Heart: Peony, Violet
Base: Musks, Sandalwood
This is how your laundry should smell: Clean, fresh, slightly reminiscent of detergent. I needed a fragrance to spritz on before heading out for errands. This was the obvious choice. However, given how it projects on me as I heat up, I don’t recommend it for workouts. As I remained in a plank, the clean sharpness floated back to my face. I did not enjoy having to gasp for air through the fragrance cloud of my own making. But for any other time, to smell professional and put together, I definitely would recommend.
What I want to try next from Byredo: Alto Astral
From Sol de Janeiro

$39 for 240 mL
Notes:
Top: Pistachio, almond
Heart: Heliotrope, jasmine
Base: Vanilla, salted caramel, sandalwood
Yes, I know this is the fragrance that everyone is wearing. From pre-teens and up, the Sol de Janiero craze has taken over. But they’re not wearing it without reason. It’s sweet, burnt sugar scent is just so pleasant and such a dumb reach (i.e. without even thinking, you would know to reach for it). I started wearing the body cream from the brand again, and this is the obvious fragrance to pair. Because it’s a body spray, I think I’m going to start leaving it in my workout bag as an easy post-class fragrance that is a crowd pleaser.
What I want to try next Sol de Janeiro: Sundays in Rio
I’ve also been testing out Flora Carnivora from Henry Rose, but I’m not quite yet ready to give my opinion. I’ll bring that to you next week.
