Kim Jones is out. Maria Grazia Churi is out. Jonathan Anderson is in. If this were a soccer game, you would be left wondering when the next sub would enter the game. But now, clearly the leadership at Dior think that Anderson is the superstar player with the ability to control the field all by himself. After having separate men’s and women’s creative directors for decades, the house of Christian Dior will drop down to one. And maybe that won’t be a bad thing.
Jones and Churi both had their own distinct vision and direction for their lines. Jone, largely drawing from the world of art, in all its forms, while Churi had a singular focused on uplifting the voices of women. Now, the men’s and women’s lines will be led by a singular vision and common direction. And that of course is my speculation as this has not been stated.
Here is what else I’m speculating
- New bag shapes and innovation on the accessories side
- Increased sense of levity and playfulness
- Social media strategy will increase
- More designer interviews and coverage
Are you following the house of Dior? What do you think will change? Are you really looking forward to seeing the designs to come? I know I am.
