My lip product hunt continues: Farmacy Lip Smoothie

As a member of the semi-perpetually dry lip union, I am constantly on the hunt for products that keep my lips juicy and plumped (without having to evaluate my hydration habits). Now, I’ve been using the Honey Vanilla Lip Smoothie from Farmacy for long enough to give my personal review.

It’s called a lip smoothie, but I would classify it closer to a lightweight wax, than a whipped liquidy consistency as the name might suggest. The other important detail is that  it is sold in a screw-top container. For me, that relegated it to a nighttime lip product, because I refuse to have to go find a sink to wash my hands every time I need to reapply. I kept this product on my nightstand and would apply it just before bed.

Honey Vanilla Lip Smoothie (note: there are other flavors, too) $22 for 10g

I started testing this product out during the winter. I was not at all happy with it. As an overnight treatment, it didn’t work well to hold in or supply moisture me. While I didn’t wake up with flaky cracked lips, it still didn’t leave me in an optimal enough condition to make it all worth it. I could tell that my lips were begging for something thicker and more hydrating. This just wasn’t up to the job. But now, as we edge into summer, it is a different experience.

It’s getting much warmer and more humid where I live. The frequent rain storms and general summer humidity make it so that I have much less drier skin overall. Now, it seems, this product is working better for me. I wake up and can still feel the light coating of the product on my lips.

If you have dry, cracked lips that are begging for moisture, this may not be the best product for you. And that is especially if you live in a dry/cold/windy environment. But if you are trying to optimize your lips that would err more normal than dry, this might be a good product for you. And if you are in a hotter, more humid environment, this could be a good option for you, too.

My experience with this product was shaped by how my skin was responding to weather conditions. As you evaluate whether this or any product is good for you, remember the same may be true for you. You may need to shift products as the seasons change. You may find a product you hated in the winter may become your summertime favorite.
