The design duo and founders of Proenza Schouler, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, are now taking their talents to Loewe, as co-creative directors. This announcement comes just one week after Jonathan Anderson announced his exit from the post. The first thing I thought was that this signals a similarly quirky aesthetic will likely be maintained at Loewe. The other thing I thought was, “That was fast.” No good high powered executive search takes merely a week. Clearly, this had been brewing for quite some time.
While Jonathan Anderson’s exit was announced on March 17, he had decided he would be moving on long ago. He and the brand decided to delay their announcement. Perhaps, it was to avoid speculation and rumors to fly about as they were doing their search. Perhaps it was because this would allow Anderson and his team to focus on his final collection with the Spanish house. I can’t be sure the real reasons why the news came out as it did, but I can take that as some learning.
This seems to be the pattern of late. A creative director leaves and the next one is announced shortly after. Maybe this is the HR trend in fashion. You don’t have a publicly vacant position.
