If you aren’t new here, you may know that I am very slowly becoming enamored with Cle de Peau. That’s a lie. I raved after I first tried a product from the luxury Japanese skincare brand. I am already enamored and am just continuing to try more products from them. Today, I would like to tell you about my experience with their Makeup Cleansing Towelettes.

A biodegradable wipe made with mangosteen and argan oil to cleanse while nourishing the skin
My search to find an effective yet gentle facial cleansing wipe has continued. I started strong with an offering from Shiseido. And now, given the efficacy of the other products from Cle de Peau, I had high hopes. The brand claims these wipes will remove makeup without disturbing your skin’s pH or using excessive force. And they even claim it will moisturize your skin. I have been using these off and on for some time now. Here is what I have noticed.
Yes! Success! They are in fact gentle yet effective. The wipes remove my makeup, including mascara without causing my skin to feel irritated or to sting. Big plus for me. Here is the downside for me. They do seem to leave a residue. For me, rather than a “throw in my bag for a post workout cleanse” product, this seems like the first step of your skincare routine. Let’s say you’re traveling and don’t want to bring all the liquid steps in your double cleanse. You could use the wipe to largely remove makeup before you go in to cleanse with your cleanser. Admittedly though, I have a tendency to wait until late in the evening to wash my face. I get too tired to do a full routine and have used these as my sole cleanser in a pinch. But I wouldn’t make it a habit of using it as my only cleanser. And to be fair, even Cle de Peau suggests following with their cleansing foam in the How to Use section on the website.
I would recommend this for you if you’re looking for cleansing wipe that will actually remove makeup and not harm your skin. But, I will add the caveat that you have to be willing to pay luxury prices. However, if you are looking for a gentle cleanse that leaves no residue behind, this won’t be the one for you.
