Margiela for date night

I was surprised by On a Date, by Replica from Maison Margiela. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I can tell you it wasn’t this. Perhaps, I thought it would be sultry. But instead, it gives a sweet rose scent. If this were a date, I suppose it were anniversary, something where you two are already comfortable, with no need to seduce each other with your smell. The love is already there. Instead, you are celebrating the consistency of your relationship with the tried-and-true combination of champagne and roses.

On a Date eau de toilette

100 mL

Notes

Top: Blackcurrant, bergamot, pink pepper

Heart: Isparta rose, geranium, davana

Base: Patchouli, vetiver, moss, musk

Now, they describe this briefly as grapes and roses. I have to admit to you, I don’t think I have sniffed my grapes before eating them. Instead, I will say that the first thing I noticed immediately on spraying is the rose. But then smelling my skin, I notice the fruity sweetness come forward.

I have worn this out a couple of times, to work not on a date. I didn’t get any compliments or any idea that anyone noticed it at all. To be fair, I didn’t spray it very heavily, and that likely played a part. Unfortunately, I can tell you that I only get about 3 hours of wear with this. Which I suppose could last the length of a dinner date.

I like this fragrance, but if you already have a sweet rose fragrance, I would not say you need this in your collection. But if you are a Margiela fan and only want their products, then yes go ahead and get it.

(As a final thought, I bet you if this was made by Phlur and with the same name, it would smell like dried dates and be caramelly sweet.)
