Trying out the new cream from Dr. Dennis Gross on my dry skin

It is undeniably winter right now, and my skin shows it. It is dry and in need of serious moisture. This is the perfect time to test moisturizers on their hydrating abilities. It was time to try Dr. Dennis Gross’s Blur + Repair Cream.

The brand claims that this cream will improve your skin texture in just two weeks. And with a satin matte finish, you will look airbrushed, ready for camera. Oh, and it will plump and hydrate your skin.

Here’s the thing. I can’t speak to you at all about how well it blurs texture, because it didn’t plump and hydrate.

To be honest, my skin was so parched while I was using it that it emphasized or possibly created new issues with texture. My skin never looked dry and flaky, but it looked thirsty. It wasn’t bouncy and plump. It felt tighter. It was definitely suboptimal leading to more texture show through under makeup.  It didn’t help that it seemed to irritate sensitive areas of my skin. And that was weird because this doesn’t rely on actives.

Yes, this did have a satin matte finish. It is definitely not dewy at all. The cream itself takes work to absorb into my skin. I had to work it in. To be fair it seems like the model in the website had a similar experience. It was easier when I used a toner first. The order of steps they recommend are their aha exfoliating wipes, followed by serum, and then cream. I think that the exfoliator or a similar chemical exfoliant is a necessary step for this product to absorb well and to be more effective. But then, it would be hard to say this product had anything to do with the texture improvement.

The brand recommends this for all skin types. I’m don’t think that’s true. I believe if you are oilier or combo, this would probably work well for you. Maybe if you have normal skin. But if you struggle with dry skin, this may not give you what you need.
