This year, I am going to do a full 365 days of fragrances. I don’t mean that I will try out 365 different fragrances, or even review all of them. I intend to wear a fragrance, any fragrance, every single day this year. There will, of course, be some repeats in there. The goal is simply to fall back in love with this hobby of mine.
I realized that I made wearing fragrances a chore. I would get towards the end of the week and bemoan that I hadn’t tried any fragrances out for a review yet, and then I would scramble to smell something just to put up a post. What a sad way to enjoy a hobby. Instead of it all being for content for my blog, I want fragrances to be part of how I enjoy a fuller life.
I want to get into the habit of scenting myself at the start of the day. It is a small ritual, but it is one that allows me to take the time to honor myself and decide how I want to present myself to the world.
I want to take the time to get know the fragrances in my collection instead of just clamoring to buy all of the new releases. I want to see if I can recognize the different notes and notice how the smell evolves over the day. I want to truly appreciate and respect the art of perfumery that goes into every bottle.
Today, I decided to try Sci Fi from Ellis Brooklyn again. Years ago, I got the scent library from the brand and was disappointed with all of picks. Sci Fi was the one I disliked the least. After years of writing off the brand and banishing the sample deep into my collection, I finally returned to it. The scent no doubt changed over the years, but it still has the citrusy top note that I remembered. Now, two hours later, the fragrance has altogether faded.
I’m looking forward to really wearing my fragrances this year. Here is to remembering old favorites, finding new loves, and getting more empty bottles by year end.
