A stay at Villa Copenhagen

Ah yes, Villa Copenhagen. In the spirit of the voting for Travel+Leisure’s world’s best, I think it’s time I give you my review of this fine hotel. Let’s go back to this summer. I packed my bags at Coco Hotel in Vesterbro and made the walk over, deeper in to the Copenhagen city center. It was just 12 minutes or so, but I started to regret my choice traveling with a duffle.

Coming from the quaint little boutique hotel where I was before, I was taken aback by the contrast. Villa Copenhagen was a towering behemoth. I even think the lobby had a larger footprint than Coco Hotel.. A slanted walkway with guardrails led me straight to the reception desk, past the multiple groups chatting and the small eatery.  Reception greeted us with kindness. We got our keys, and went to put my things away.

The room was beautiful. It gave me the sense of being in mountain chalet with the wooden beams as décor. The bathroom was also gorgeous. All of it had the appeal you would look for in a luxury European hotel, especially with the luxury of air conditioning. However, that design was almost my downfall. The wooden beams and slanted ceiling increased my likelihood of head injury by so much. The only sitting area was dangerously close, making standing up a mind game. I had to focus to avoid bruising my head. If you were to awaken in the middle of the night, I wouldn’t recommend trying to navigate the room with the lights off.

But the hotel overall had great amenities. Again air conditioning, which bears repeating for a European hotel. There was also a small gym with just enough equipment to get a workout in. There was breakfast included, that was served in the expansive buffet downstairs. The onsite restaurant served me Scandinavian tempeh and carrot puree, which led me to think more highly of the meat substitute.

One of the biggest draws of the location though is outside its walls. It is very close to both Tivoli Gardens and the major train station. That makes is easy to visit the major tourist attraction in the area and easily get to others (including the castles in Sweden).

All in all, I would recommend the Villa Copenhagen to you if you are looking to stay in Copenhagen, experience more luxurious trappings, and want to be in the center of it all.
