Curiosity got the best of me as I walked through Nordstrom one day. That’s how I ended up with a Chanel sunscreen. I have been using their UV Essentiel and now the tube is almost empty. It’s time for a review.
Among the claims that Chanel makes are that it will protect you from the sun’s rays and that it will moisturize your skin. Essentially, it is a sunscreen. In trying this out, I can confirm that it is in fact a sunscreen. I don’t know if as they claim, that 8 hours later that my skin was even more hydrated. I can say that it is lightweight and not greasy, in comparison to a lot of sunscreens that I have used. It played nicely with other products and layered well under makeup. I also found that it didn’t run into my eyes and was generally non irritating to my skin. And not to be overlooked, the slim packaging fit nicely into my travel bag.

Cons, go. It is expensive. This product is $60 for roughly 1 fluid ounce, which at least is still comparatively less expensive than the Cle de Peau option which is $140 for 1.8 fl oz. For what it is, basically just a sunscreen with no claims to improve your skin, it is a lot of money.
Now who would I recommend this for? People of any skin type who want their vanity to seem more luxurious. People who want their friends to peek into their overnight bag and say, “oooh” Chanel. With the number of sunscreen options out there, including luxury and prestige, those would be the only reason I would steer someone to this product in particular.
Now I have to admit, I personally liked how easily this fit into my toiletry bag. That reason alone almost made me want to repurchase, but I thought about how disappointed my wallet would be in me and decided against that. But at the end of the day, it is a good basic sunscreen, just at a very luxurious price.
