A Wren Says

The invitation said, wear fall themed colors. I have none, so I thought maybe I should do a fall themed fragrance. For some reason, I thought Maison Margiela’s Afternoon Delight would be perfect. Something about the increasingly chilly weather had me leaning towards the sweet gourmand fragrance.

Top: Bitter almond, Angelica roots

Middle:  Madeleine accord, carrot, absolu ambrette

Base: New Caledonia sandalwood, Madagascar vanilla pod, musks

Because I was heading to a party where I didn’t know too many people, I sprayed the fragrance very lightly on my wrists. Now back at home, I want to spray more. Afternoon Delight smells edible in a very literal way. I smell like a little almond cake. It is 8 hours later I can still smell it on me, but I want to bathe in its tasty goodness. No one at the party remarked on my scent, but I didn’t spray much on to be noticed. And, there was cake, so maybe they were confused.

Admittedly, I don’t always want to smell like a snack. Maybe I would wear this when I want to smell good but not offensive. Or in a situation that is more playful. Maybe a board game night with friends, or a movie night, or as the perfect accompaniment when ordering at coffee shop.

I like this fragrance, and I’m considering if I want to have it on hand for those times when I want to smell and feel happy and cozy. If you into sweet, cake-like gourmands, be sure to smell Afternoon Delight by Maison Margiela.
