The new La Mer night cream seems like a tempting splurge

La Mer has recently released a new night cream that contains a retinol alternative. The new Rejuvenating Night Cream is listed as for all skin types, but it is especially intended for sensitive skin types seeking anti-aging solutions. The ingredient, MRA-3™, increases cell turnover, similar to retinol, but should be less irritating. And of course, like all La Mer products, this cream also includes the Miracle Broth.

Here is what results they say you should see in 4 weeks after twice daily use. After just one month, you should see an improvement in “8 critical signs of visible aging: fine lines, plumpness, softness, radiance, firmness, smoothness, texture, and wrinkles” and notice that your skin is softer and firmer.

[A quick aside: This is just me, but I think it is interesting that they list the results as needing twice daily use, but they promote it as a night cream and their other moisturizers as the daytime products. With how it is being marketed, when should a user expect to see results?]

Given my own experiences and hesitation with using retinol, I am curious about this product. I have personally started to feel irritations with some retinol products and have turned away from the ingredient because of the other effects like sun sensitivity. I am not running to buy it because I’m trying to be fiscally responsible, but I want to know how well it can deliver on its promises.

I will be on the lookout for how this product is received by consumers and if La Mer ends up using MRA-3TM in more products. I imagine an eye cream and perhaps different cream formulations (i.e. richer version for drier skin types) would be just around the corner.

If you are interested in trying this, currently Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus are running gift with purchase sample promos for purchases of $100 and $200 respectively. And of course, you can also head over to the La Mer site to learn more.
