How I fared with this AHA product from Thrive Causmetics

After applying playing with some makeup for the day, I could notice some flaky texture showing through. It was definitely time to exfoliate. The perfect time to try out the Overnight Sensation Gentle Retexurizing Solution from Thrive Causmetics

I immediately planned to use the AHA serum that night. After thoroughly cleansing my skin, or rather  double/triple cleansing and then following up with a muslin cloth to bat cleanup, my next step was to apply the solution. It is thin, watery, and gel-like. And I pretty quickly regretted having put it on. Almost instantly, I could feel my skin getting warm and uncomfortable. My face was very visibly reddened when I checked my reflection. It got to the point where I considered going ahead and washing it over, instead of leaving it overnight. But, I decided to keep it on and see what would happen. Not much. I didn’t see any big difference when looking in the mirror.

After a week I tried it again. This time I didn’t get the burning sensation. It was possibly because I didn’t pre-irritate my skin by having to aggressively cleanse, or it was the result of a product that I will write about at a later date. All I know is that I didn’t get any irritation, though I did notice my skin again looked red and inflamed on my cheeks and around my nose. Again, the next day, I didn’t notice any major improvements. In the morning.

As you can infer, I am not a big fan of this product and personally won’t buy it again. BUT it wasn’t designed with my skin type in mind. I err to dry and can be sensitive in some places. The Thrive Causmetics site recommends this for normal to oily skin types.

The people who might like this product are those with normal to oily skin and have been looking to add a chemical exfoliant to their skin care round up. And if you are looking to move away from lactic acids and try something new, this might be an option. Be mindful, they recommend 8 weeks of regular use to see results.

If you have dry or sensitive skin, I would not recommend this product. Even though it is called gentle, it still may not be gentle enough.

As an alternative, and if you are willing to spend more, the AHA product that I have had the best results from was the Water Lock Moisturizer, which revealed better skin over time, and I loved the Resurfacing Mask, which gave quick results.

Finally, remember that AHA can sensitize your skin to the sun. Wear your sunscreen, so that you don’t undo all that work with sun damage!
