If you are headed to California, you (hopefully) have seeing some redwoods on your itinerary. And the trees are magnificent, but this isn’t what this post will be about. Here are four things you might not have thought of that I think you should know before you go to Muir Woods.

1. It is a very windy way up
The road up to Muir Woods is a winding route with steep drop offs to the side. If you are a nervous driver, you may not want to be the one at the wheel. But if you are not a nervous driver, perhaps I don’t want you over there either, because your overconfidence could be dangerous. If you are taking your own vehicle, make sure you get your tires and brakes checked first. Safety first people.
2. Keep your belongings safe.
You will be greeted by a number of signs warning you about the threat of car break-ins. You’re in the idyllic forest, but you still need your city senses.
3. If you don’t want to hike, you can sit.
You can enjoy the forest without walking through it. There are number of reasons why you might not want or be able to walk through the forest. But even still, you might want to still enjoy it. There are benches in the forest. Feel free to have a sit and take it all in. Also, there is a gift shop.
4. You may feel better as a result of your walk in the woods.
A random tour guide happened upon our group and said that the increased oxygen levels should increase your energy levels and potentially improve your skin. Forest bathing is a thing.
