Hair care has been a struggle for me, in both the noun and verb sense. I haven’t been able to find hai rcare products that I really loved, that made may hair feel amazing. And because I don’t like the results of the products, I just have dreaded doing my hair. All of the time invested to get the same drab results. Well, I think I finally found something that changed all that: the K18 Molecular Repair Leave-in.
I used this product over multiple hair washes. How many? I don’t know. But given my hair texture and condition, this was just once in a week. Here’s how I used it.
After shampooing, the leave-in was the very next step. Skip your conditioner, and certainly don’t apply your deep conditioner. They’ll prevent the product from doing its magic. K18 suggested using three pumps for your whole head. I have no idea whose head they’re talking about. I used more than three pumps to ensure all my strands were covered. And even though they say not to, I combed the product through my hair to ensure even distribution. Sometimes this was with an actual comb; other times I raked through with my fingers. And though that whole process took a while, I still waited the suggested 4 minutes before moving on to styling products.

Over the course of testing, I used a couple of leave-ins and stylers that I was less than impressed with, and each time I loved the way my hair felt. To the point that I questioned whether I had misjudged the products. Then I tried them again without K18 and realized I was right. On their own, my felt like it was poorly conditioned. With K18, my hair was soft and had good sheen for days. The next logical step would be to skip the second leave-in, but I’m not there yet.
An important note, I used this in conjunction with a couple of different shampoos in my rotation. This product worked best for me when I paired with a more clarifying shampoo. The shampoos that claimed to be gentle and moisturizing didn’t lead to as good of results.
I believe my hair is dry and damaged fitting with the hair type K18 is designed for. But if your issue is just trying to keep in moisture in otherwise healthy hair, this might not be the product for you. And you love a good deep conditioning session, or really nurturing shampoos, you might want to skip this product.
Final thoughts: The K18 does something for my hair that makes it behave better, even when paired with products I didn’t love previously. I am a believer in this product and am thinking of trying other products from this brand as I attempt to get my healthiest hair yet.
