Based on the name, Tom Ford’s Café Rose led me to believe it should smell like a rose growing in a coffee shop. Maybe that is a good way to describe it. Perhaps there is an essence of coffee here, but what comes forward is rose. I don’t notice the coffee as a distinct element of this scent. It’s as if the coffee is used to mellow the rose and make it seem sweeter, rather than seeking to shine on its own. And certainly, it makes for a rose that doesn’t at all feel like my grandmother’s bath products.
Comparing this to another Tom Ford rose fragrance, Rose Prick, I would say this projects less. On first spray, it’s a lot. But after it settles, it feels much more manageable. I also didn’t get the same, “Ugh, what are you wearing? I need to roll the windows down,” reaction with this one. Even with that initial strength fading off, this was still long-lasting in my opinion. I could smell it on myself after 8 hours, though it was fainter. To be honest, I appreciated that this wasn’t screaming at me all day to be noticed.
If you like rose fragrances and want to add a new take on the flower to your rotation, try this. And if you don’t like rose, try this to see if it might change your mind.
