Quick review of Sound of a Ricochet

I read the notes of Sound of a Ricochet by Floraiku and thought this will be a safe fragrance. Vanilla? Surely this would be something to try right before I head out to an event. Sigh, maybe that wasn’t the best choice, upon further review. Scratch that, I would be so bold as to say that is flat out just not a good idea period. Don’t try new fragrances right before you leave out or important meetings or events.

  • Sound of a Ricochet eau de parfum: $350 for 50 mL + 10 mL travel spray
  • Notes: Sandalwood oil, vanilla extract, tonka bean absolute, anise seeds essence, patchouli heart, Australian sandalwood essence.

On first spray, instant regret. There was something in this that was off-putting to me and made think, “I should wash off my arm before heading to the event”. And to be honest, I did try, but it lingered. Luckily no one seemed to be put off in the tight space. Later the twinge of what I hated had faded and left an edgy vanilla in its place. And after hours more it had completely faded.

Here’s what I think. I think because I read vanilla, I was expecting something sweet. This is not sweet. And I’m not sure if it’s the anise or the patchouli that gives it an essence that just is not quite right for me and my skin. Now, on paper as it is developing I’m starting to appreciate it more and understand how all of the notes work together. I wish I could do the same on my skin.

I don’t love this. I don’t like the way it smells on me. But, if you are a fan of anise and patchouli, this might be one for you to add to your list.
