Impatient reviews: 3 quick skincare first impressions

Here some quick reviews of some samples I’ve tried for just a couple of days. These are just first impressions and probably aren’t a fair assessment of the products. I won’t lie to you, the products I tried just didn’t cut it for my dry skin. Here’s why and if I could do it over again, here is what I’d try from the brand instead.

Kora Organics

  • What I tried: Turmeric Glow Foaming Cleanser
    • It was gentle enough and smelled more minty than turmeric-y, if that makes sense. It was okay. Nothing to write home about. I found it to be too drying for my skin.
  • What I’d try instead: Milky Mushroom Gentle Cleansing Oil
    • This looks like a much gentler alternative, to get my skin clean but not stripped. (And they list it as for dehydrated skin.)

Augustinus Bader

  • What I tried:  The Serum
    • It’s okay. No big difference between side with and without moisturizer. To be fair, I only used it for a day, so I couldn’t tell if there are any long term benefits.
  • What I’d try instead: The Face Oil
    • Same benefits, but a formula that will help me to lock in moisture.

Saturday Skin

  • What I tried: yuzu vitamin c sleeping mask
    • I have to admit retinol scares me. My fear is that it will instantly sensitize my skin and make me have a vampire like reaction to the sun. So the first time I tried this product, I immediately rinsed it off. I got spooked as I read retinol on the label while I was waiting.
  • What I’d try instead: carrot + niacinamide moisturizing cream
    • With niacinamide, it also has the power to address skin texture over time with a gentler, non-sensitizing approach.
