This was supposed to be a review: Moon Glory by The Harmonist

There was something that initially drew me to Moon Glory by The Harmonist, and I have no idea what it was. I couldn’t explain to you what it was that I smelled on the first encounter at The Conservatory, I just knew that I wanted to keep smelling it. But now, at the start of my seasonal allergies plight, I hate it. Life is so unfair.

Moon Glory eau de parfum

$350 for 1.7 oz

Notes:

Top: Jasmine, ylang-ylang, lychee

Mid: Queen of the night, passionflower, honey

Base: Hinoki wood, balsam, sandalwood

The scent that captured me in that first spray is not something I have words to describe. It smelled elegant and unlike everyone else. I thought it would make me smell unique, yet comforting. I have since been wearing the fragrance for two weeks straight. Week One had me loving it, wishing others would comment on how good I smelled. But part way through Week Two, I went on vacation and developed a stuffy nose and sore throat. Then spraying the fragrance on to start the day, I felt instant regret. All the notes I couldn’t describe before became choking florals. The brand describes them as “intoxicating florals.” Well, I certainly felt disoriented.

I am definitely going to have to revisit this scent in the later months, when the pollen that is assaulting me has finally disappeared from the air.

Your takeaway should not be that this is a bad scent. And in no way do I believe that either. I know, I experienced I in-store and at home before it had this effect. It is wild to me how I can do a 180 on my thoughts on a fragrance just based on how I am feeling on a particular day. Whether swayed by physical illness or a mood, I know now that I can’t rely on a single day’s testing to gauge my true feelings on a fragrance. I need to experience it in multiple settings on various days and in different mental states.

I urge you, if you too are playing with and trying to figure out how you feel about a fragrance, think about how you feel. What is going on within you that could be shifting your perception?

And if you are into je ne sais quoi florals, go ahead and give Moon Glory by The Harmonist a try.
