I have been looking at the pile of no good to anyone clothes sitting in a bag on my floor, waiting to take it somewhere, but who knows where. I thought to myself, “There has to be a way you could take this old fabric, break it down, and make new rolls of fabric. Surely.” Apparently, there is. Unfortunately for me and my hopes of eventually getting a patent, there are multiple companies that specialize in fabric recycling. The problem wasn’t the process. The problem was getting the clothes from you to them. Enter SuperCircle.
Supercircle steps in to help brands with the unsexy side of sustainable efforts: Logistics. Working with a wide array of clothing retailers, SuperCircle supports the recycling process by providing the incentives for consumers (credit for your clothing); collecting, identifying, and sorting the fabrics; and getting the clothing to recycling companies. Rather than engaging in the process of recycling, it serves the role of middleman, but in a way that makes the process much smoother using technology and data.
Brands, like J. Crew, are looking to SuperCircle to help them make good on their sustainability goals and help reduce the waste that comes from the fashion industry. I am looking to see how they will be able to expand and partner with an even larger roster of brands. And maybe, just maybe, they’ll make it easier for me to finally, sustainably, get rid of all of those old clothes.
