Apple Brandy on the Rocks by Kilian surprised me.

Apple Brandy on the Rocks first introduced itself to me at the Kilian boutique in New York. It was one of the last fragrances I tried in the store that day, on a whim, just to say that I tried it. I was taken aback by how much I liked it. Even after a marathon smelling session and an overwhelmed sense of smell, something about it stood out to me. It wasn’t like anything else in the lineup. I knew I would have to bring it home with me.

I wore it for the week, each day spraying it on in the morning and returning in the evening still smelling it on my skin. I found that the projection was reduced, but the way it smelled seemed unchanged on my skin.

It is slightly sweet, slightly boozy, a little bit apple-y but all the way enjoyable. I really like wearing it as a woman, but I could definitely imagine this working great on a man. I would put it solidly unisex in category. Right now, I picturing a confident man in a suit, with a sweater or t-shirt nursing a cocktail at a dimly lit and sophisticated bar. (And he may or may not be a spy.) So even though it doesn’t fit the category traditionally male marketed scents, there is something in it that I think pairs well with masculinity.

Apple Brandy on the Rocks

$50 for 7.5 mL

Notes: Bergamot, apple brandy accord (rum, moss, vanilla), cedarwood, ambroxan, cardamom

If you have made to this point in the post are still wondering if I recommend this fragrance, that concerns me. Of course I do. However, if you don’t like boozy, fruity, and or sweet notes in your fragrances, you might not like this. But maybe you will. If you prefer to smell sweet and innocent and flowery, this probably isn’t for you. Everybody else, give Kilian’s Apple Brand on the Rocks a try.
