Let’s eat at the Equinox Hotel

During my say at the Equinox Hotel Hudson Yards, I just had to let myself have the experience of ordering room service. I used the in-room iPad to place the order. The menu is expansive. It includes health forward fare and options for when you are feeling more indulgent. I, myself, have committed myself to trying as many room service burgers as I can, so my selection was already made before I even navigated to the menu. But I did see a lot of options that made think I should reconsider. Matcha pancakes? Polenta fries? I really wanted to try those things, along with the other entress. And there was a menu of options to help promote better sleep. Alas, I had a mission.

I selected the burger on the iPad, how I wanted it cooked and my chosen side. Then hit submit. It provided me with an expected time and I waited. I have to admit, that was much more seamless than having to use my phone to scan a QR code to pull up a menu and then call someone and place my order. This was like a much more expensive and yet even more convenient Uber Eats.

The meal came hot and within the given time window, delivered in an insulated bag. Unfortunately, it cooled as worked to get a good picture. I thoroughly enjoyed the brioche bun. The burger was well seasoned, but a bit dry. I blame my requirement that all burgers be cooked well done. The fries were the best part. They were lightly crispy yet soft in the middle, and they maintained their texture even as they cooled. This might have been my favorite room service fries yet. I don’t know. I don’t have an actual ranking system, but I will say they were good. And the pickles were an unexpected star.

I luckily noticed a very important note. There would be a charge for leaving the dishes for housekeeping to take care off. I have no idea what the amount would be, but I chose not to find out. Luckily it was just as easy to order tray removal using the iPad. I input the request, left the insulated bag with the trays, and trusted it would be picked up. (Obviously, it was.)

My final morning, I opted to try the hotel’s restaurant, Electric Lemon. It was rather empty that Sunday morning. I imagine it really gets busy in later afternoon and evenings. I will preface this by saying that I was disappointed that the matcha pancakes on the in-room dining menu are not available there. I allowed myself time to grieve, briefly considered heading back upstairs, and then took a look at the brunch menu. I chose the chicken sausage breakfast sandwich and a beet orange juice.

A couple things, I was surprised to get a salad for breakfast, well brunch. But I ate it and enjoyed the dressing they used. They took the breakfast sandwich and made it a grown-up. They included sauce. The bread was definitely made by hand by someone who was loved by his grandmother. The only drawback was the mixed egg and sausage patty was a bit cold. The whole thing was good, but I’m not used to breakfast sandwiches being cold. The beet orange juice tasted exactly how you expect it would if you were juice beets and oranges and mix them together. It tasted like beets and oranges, but yay health.

When I finished with my meal, the waiter asked I would be interested in a dessert menu. “At 9 AM?? And also, yes.” I took one look at the menu and one glance to the table next to me tearing into a date roll and desired to get one to go.

I took the date roll all the way home and enjoyed it that evening after my travel. I microwaved it to heat it back up.  It tasted much better than I thought it would, even with the pecans I am not typically a fan of.

If you choose to stay at the property, treat yourself to in-room dining. And if you just happen to be in the area, stop by Electric Lemon for their health forward fare. I wish I had the chance to try more food at Equinox. There were so many great options and good service. I might have to come back for a visit taste more of what they have to offer.
