How well did the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask work for my dry skin?

I had high hopes for the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask. As I planned to use it that night, I was excited by the prospect of how hydrated my skin would be when I woke up. I was almost giddy by how glowy I would be in the morning.

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

$32 for 70 mL

Gel mask designed to hydrate normal to dry skin overnight

I washed my face, then slathered on an even thick layer. I went to sleep, cautious to keep my sheets from rubbing against my face. I couldn’t risk any of the mask being rubbed off and unknowingly ruining my dream hydration moment.

Then I woke up and looked in the mirror, wondering if I had put on any of the mask at all. Surely, I just didn’t put on enough. That has to be the problem. Right? My forehead was flaky and dry. My pores just looked dehydrated. My face looked overall dull. I was disappointed. Now I wonder if this mask was meant for me at all.

It says it is for normal and dry skin. What did I do wrong?

Online the instructions say to let it absorb completely, then go to sleep. Maybe I just need to give it another try. So I gave it another try. First, I used a gentle exfoliating cleanser first, to handle any flaky skin issues. Then I applied the mask as if it were a moisturizer, rubbing it in instead spackling it on like before. The next morning, the results were much better. I didn’t notice any dry patches, but my face wasn’t as dewy or hydrated as I’d dreamed.

Personally, I wouldn’t buy this product again. As someone with dry skin, especially during this winter, I didn’t think it did a good enough job hydrating my skin. I’ll add that because it is a mask, I was expecting even more. It seemed more like a gel moisturizer. However, if you have oily or combo skin, maybe that is why you might love it. Give it a try, form your own opinion, and let me know how it goes.
