Imagine you’ve got me at the end of the game show with a million dollars on the line with the question of where should someone go to eat in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. My answer for that is Metapatio. And that would definitely be the right answer to win me the game. Maybe that is really cheating because it is one place but with multiple options. Metapatio is like an outdoor food hall. I’m pretty sure there is an actual phrase for this, but I’m not about to look that up right now. Just know that there is a beer garden and multiple food stalls. Because it was less than a three minute walk from my hotel, Fiesta Americana, this was a place I returned to.

On the first night, we had pizza, but there were tacos, burgers, and more to choose from. I could also tell that their was some serious attention to detail in the beer options and space for live music. However, it was pretty calm when we got there early Friday night. But rest assured, this is a location for night life; you just have to check the schedule.

The spot we kept going back to was Café Esotérico. We had brunch there Saturday morning. I ordered the blueberry French toast and a latte. The latte was good and needed no sugar and was a great complement to the French toast. I have to say, that was clearly made fresh and I could tell they added fresh lemon zest.

Then we came back on Tuesday morning before heading out. I ordered the avocado toast and was intrigued by the coffee lemonade. The avocado toast was life changing.

Yes, I could have been more adventurous and get things on the menu that were not in English, but this stuff was really good. And that avocado toast, I am not sure what they put on it, but those little crispy bits were life changing. And come on. I didn’t want to be the person who went and ordered tacos all around Mexico. There is so much more on offer.

The coffee lemonade tasted how you might think it would but better. But I definitely was envious of my companion’s toffee latte.
Honestly we would have gone to try other restaurants at the Metapatio that Monday, but it seems the area is closed that day. I guess I’m just going to have to go back Monterrey at some point and get back over there. And if it’s not on your itinerary, you should definitely add it. And that is my final answer.
