I sampled the Water Drench moisturizer from Peter Thomas Roth and was pleasantly surprised. The obvious deduction I made from that was that I would love the sunscreen version. So I went ahead and sprung for the full size. Now that I have been using the Water Drench SPF 45 moisturizer over the long term, I can form my full thoughts on the product. And here it is: I thought I would like this more. Three days of a sample really does pale in comparison to daily sunscreen use. Here are my quick thoughts on it.
Here’s what I like first. My skin doesn’t look greasy. Sunscreens can have the tendency to “look like I have sunscreen on.” There is often an overall sheen, if you’re lucky to not end up with a white cast. I liked that this looked and felt like a regular moisturizer. But, that also became a problem for me and my dry skin.

Now is it what I don’t like. It is so thin and watery that it seems like it takes forever to soak in. Maybe it is because it is so thin and just kind of moves around my face, I am not sure if I am really getting good coverage of the product for sun protection. (Actually thin and watery should probably soak in faster, now that I think about it.) In addition to struggling to ensure I am actually protecting my skin, I don’t think it is doing a good job as a stand alone morning moisturizer for me. I find that I need to find a product to layer on first to get a good base of moisture and then put it on. Maybe that works for other people, but I am looking for a one step routine to get myself out the door in the morning.
(Edit: This product seems to fair better for me if it is layered on top of another product first. I had on layer of the Laneige cream skin toner, then let that dry. The sunscreen behaved more like traditional sunscreen as I’m used to it instead of seeming so water. I feel like I got better coverage doing that.)
Now, the things that I don’t like about it might be the very reason you love it. If you tend to have oilier skin than me or are in a humid environment, this might be great for you. Personally however, I am going to move on to something else as soon as this product fully empties.
