The Starling Hotel is in the heart of Midtown Atlanta. This hotel is part of the Curio Collection. If you are familiar with the brand, you’ll know that each their properties have a little quirk to them. This one is no different. Entering the space you can’t help but notice the green wall up by the check-in desks. Of course, I have no pictures for you, but just imagine if ivy took over an interior wall and from that grew the logo for your hotel.
I took elevator up to my room, walked in and thought, “Okay.” There was no wow factor. There was closet with luggage storage. The bathroom was stocked with Aveda products and had a rainfall shower. The sink was missing a drain cover. And there was art on the walls. The bed faced the window and then that was that. Nothing special, but it was what I needed it to be.

I would be out all day and only return to sleep. I didn’t need any fancy amenities I would have time to use anyway. And even though it was in the heart of the city, I slept soundly without the disruptions of city noise.
One major minus that I will call out is the breakfast. I was feeling lazy and thought it would be much easier to eat at the hotel rather than venture out to find something. The buffet was wildly disappointing. After surveying the options, I only ended up eating a yogurt and attempted to eat a biscuit with gravy that was way too cold. You can imagine how much more disappointed I was to see that meal cost me around 30 dollars. For some Yoplait and the spread they set out. That honestly could have been free and I still would have been disappointed.
A positive is that they actually paid attention to their guest services text messages. I used the text thread to ask for help after I locked myself in the stairwell. I had just used the gym, which was decent, and wanted to get more steps in. Then I found out it was only and emergency exit with no access to other floors, but only after the door shut behind me. I sent out the message and someone came to save me.
The last positive I will add that the bar opens up in the evenings and is a lively spot to entertain and be entertained.
Now here’s the thing, I wasn’t terribly impressed with the room, but I would stay there again. I will get more into the reasons why in my next post, but I think it was good for what I needed it to be: A place to sleep after a long day of exploring in the city at a reasonable price. And honestly, I encourage you to look into the property for your lodging needs if you need a spot to stay in the city.
