Maybe washing your face in the morning isn’t necessary

I must admit to you now: I am not the kind of person who fully cleanses her face in the morning. I am more in the camp of let’s do a full routine at night, including cleanser and all the other steps. Then in the morning, it’s just a little refresh. But because I have seen so many skincare instructions telling me to use the product morning and night it got me thinking, “Should I be full on washing my face in the morning?” I came across an article on Net-A-Porter where Angelia Caglia says that no longer washing her face in the morning is the beauty secret that changed her skin. Maybe I’d been on to something this whole time.

French pharmacist, Natacha Bonjout suggests that morning cleanses can disrupt the processes your skin underwent overnight. That includes building up a layer of beneficial sebum that can protect your skin from daily environmental stressors.

Well, what do you do if you don’t wash your face in the morning? For starters, you have to cleanse your skin at night, and cleanse it well. Then in the morning you can do a gentle cleanse. Bonjout suggests misting water or a floral toner. Maybe a micellar water. Or even just a good old damp wash cloth.

So if your were wondering like I was, you don’t have to wash your face in the morning if it doesn’t feel right for your skin or your routine. Or you can, just do what works best for you.
