I have made it a bit of thing to go about trying out new donut places. And unfortunately it seems to be my thing to be disappointed. Too often it seems the flavor development strategy is to offer the exact same donut with a different frosting. I made it a point to try out Kane’s Donuts in Downtown Boston, hopes high and even higher when I noticed the line going out the door.
The line moved at reasonable pace, but it seemed incredibly slow because if just was feeling desperate to try them. I felt a bit overwhelmed by the selection and deliberated long and hard on what to order, since I decided not to get a whole dozen for myself. And then I panicked once I got to the counter and ordered the first two things I saw and hoped I made a good choice: The Honey Dip, their classic, and the Crème Brulee.

Truthfully, my fingers were very sticky as I tried to jot down my thoughts, but it was all worth it. I struggled to figure out which flavor I wanted my taste buds to end on. The classic, you can’t go wrong with that. But that bruleed sugar with a satisfying crack paired so well with the custard filling was also not a bad way to end my snack. My only disappointment was that I didn’t get more and had not time left in my schedule to go back.
So, if you wonder if I recommend this to other donut hunters, then yes, yes I do. I also am seriously trying to figure out when I will get back for another taste myself.
(Oh no, I just discovered they are available for shipping. This could be a problem.)
